CLUB MEDicine by Jack Kinsley
Crystal Heights is an elite rehab center for the wealthy, but it provides the accommodations and services of a luxury spa. The clients are an eclectic bunch: a spoiled, drug addled young man, a wealthy lonely widow, a newly rich woman struggling with her sexuality, a hardcore killer (and drug addict) in need of redemption. The staff is equally eclectic: a comical chef, a straight-laced facility manager, an absent-minded assistant and Travis, the owner of the facility and the main character of the story.
Travis’s complicated life, both past and present are the driving force of the story. He’s recently separated from his wife, who is threatening to take his beloved daughter to her home country of Romania, where he may never see her again. On the surface, Travis appears to be a hardworking man, who only wants his business to succeed and his marriage and family to remain intact, but his personal demons are catching up with him and he can feel it all slipping away.
When Travis feels like he’s backed into a corner with no other alternatives, he decides to take the ultimate action… murder-for hire. It’s a complicated thriller with a surprising ending.

People who know me know how much I LOVE apocalyptic novels. And I've read it all: vampires, werewolves, killer viruses and of course, my personal favourite - zombies. There is something about being in such dark, disastrous times that draw me into these novels. I love them. I crave them, and I cherish them dearly. Maybe it's living in a world void of rules. Gone are morals and the need for law and money. Or maybe it's the way the apocalypse brings... things, dark scary things that we didn't know lingered inside of us all. That's why I love these types of novels and that's why I especially loved this series by Virginia Bergin.
When I saw The Rain I was immediately drawn by that little bit under the title "Just one drop will kill you" Hello? Can you imagine living in a world where the rain is poison? We need the rain to survive. Humanity couldn't live without it. So how could you defeat such a deadly enemy? You can't. In The Rain if one drop gets on your skin you're doomed. You can't touch it or drink it, so how do you survive?
For the first time ever I'm not going to review this book like I normally would. I'm not going to summarize my likes or dislikes. I want you to read it. I want you to dive into this series without any hint of what's to come. And trust me you won't regret it. I promise. I strongly recommend you getting both The Rain and its sequel The Storm because once you start you won't want to stop.
5 Stars (April 2015) Rothaker (Everett Book 2) by Jenifer Ruff
Brook is an exceptional woman-she’s beautiful, intelligent, a hard working student and employee and she’s twisted.
Brook has now entered medical school, where she plans on pursuing her degree to become a surgeon. Although she’s generally anti-social, she makes a few friends and she meets a man (another student) and falls for him. However Brook is also determined to be the absolute best at everything and anyone who dares to get in her way…well, obstacles need to be removed.
I was little overwhelmed by some of the descriptions as they seemed overdone and although they eventually tied into the story, they could have been pared down a bit. I felt the ending was a bit blunt, but I also appreciated the reasons for this, it’s a series and there is more of Brook to come, the author does a great job of leaving the reader wanting more.
I was given this book first and was so enthralled that I immediately purchased book 1. Rothaker is book 2 in this series, it’s a great stand-alone novel, but I would recommend picking up Everett (book 1) first.
