The Eye That Blinds by B.E. Scully
Three friends, three different paths after college, three disturbed minds… The Eye That Blinds delves into the deep independence of a virtual society and the repercussions of immersing and losing oneself in the new realities (or unrealities) of the internet.
Ross was unhappy with his career and his life in general, he wanted fame and fortune and in his desperation, he created an alternate persona that he convinced himself would lead to fame and fortune some day. Brooke Merrill is also unimpressed with her career, but more importantly she’s unable to transition to adulthood, which leads to her deep belief that she is very ill and therefore needs to withdraw from the real world and immerse herself in the online “support” world for her “disease”. Travis Wickett uses the internet and his advanced abilities as a hacker and online stalker to control the world of the people around him and feed his need to feel powerful.
The true evil in this novella is the ease in which some people are so overtaken by the online world and all it has to offer, both good and bad. A psychological thriller with a gruesome ending that you won’t be able to put down!
