Finally, Morgan returns, and if you read the comics you were already prepared for it being a gut wrenching episode.
Well, the last time we saw Morgan he was trying, unsuccessfully, to put a bullet in his zombie wife's brain. He couldn't and because of that his son died. Now alone, Morgan is a broken man, an empty shell of who he once was. Rick discovers him living in an old apartment, filled with an impressive armory of weapons, grenades, clever booby- traps and strange markings scribbled onto the walls. (ie. CLEAR, DUANE TURNED) It took Rick a beat before he could finally convince Morgan that he was real. Morgan gets angry, blaming him for not being there when he needed him the most. He fills our beloved/crazy sheriff in on what happened once he took off for Atlanta, which to Rick's horror has sent Morgan spiraling into depression and madness. He refuses Rick's offer to join Team Prison, saying that he has to "clear"...whatever that means.
