After the zombie virus breaks out in a local hospital, a group of doctors, nurses and civilians band together to seal off the hospital from the dead and protect the sick and dying from the infected. Of course there are challenges, twists and turns at every corner, but the survivors work together to reach one common goal – to survive. I must say that my favorite character was the overweight, annoying nuisance that is Eric. I've never laughed so hard reading a book in my life. You love him, but at the same time, you hate him too. He only looks out for himself…or his belly depending on how you look at it.
The beginning sticks a bite in you (pun intended) and doesn't let go until the very end, and even then you still wish there was more. I find the zombie genre to be very fascination or anything that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. It just shows the human struggle of not just one, but all of humanity when it is brought to its knees. Would it be every man for himself? Or could we really come together as one unit and fight to not only save ourselves, but the human population as well? Another thing I love about this book is that it isn't a superhero story. There weren't any over the top, impossible action scenes (ie. One man taking on an entire zombie horde alone). It was believable, and in the end every one of the survivors were heroes. This is one of the best zombie books out there and I can’t wait to read more from this author. If you enjoy Walking Dead, this book is for you and even if you’re not into the whole zombie thing, give it a shot, you won’t be disappointed.
